Plan Your Visit to the Albany Institute of History & Art

Free parking is available on a limited basis in our parking lot at the corner of Dove and Elk Street.  On the weekend, there is plenty of free parking available on the adjacent streets.

Anticipate spending approximately two hours to enjoy the entire museum.  To make the most of your visit, learn about our collections and current exhibitions and plan which things you would most like to see.

Sketching in the Galleries:

All visitors, including groups of art students, are permitted to sketch in the galleries of The Albany Institute of History of Art in pencil only. If individuals need to sharpen their pencils, they must use their own boxes to collect the shavings.

The use of pens, oil paints, easels, or watercolors is not allowed. In addition, individuals who sketch in the museum may not interfere with the flow of visitors through the galleries and are subject to further direction from The Albany Institute of History & Art security and staff, as necessary.

The Albany Parking Authority is a proud sponsor of the Albany Institute of History & Art. The APA provides easy, accessible and affordable parking for all that Albany has to offer to residents and visitors alike.
